For those who want to enter or are currently employed in the civil construction industry, this course will give you all the skills and knowledge you need. You will develop a range of skills associated with small plant and equipment, hand and power tools, basic levelling and excavation. You will also learn how to safely work on a construction site.

Career Pathways


This qualification reflects the role of individuals working in supervisory and technical specialist positions in civil construction.

Entry Requirements


There are no educational entry requirements for this qualification, however:

  • PParticipants must be 15 years old or over (If you’re under 18, your parent or guardian must sign the enrolment form on your behalf).
  • Be competent in written and spoken English. All prospective students will undertake a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) evaluation prior to commencing the training.
  • Students must be an Trainee and have a Unique Student Identifier (USI).
  • Trainees must be registered with an Apprenticeship Centre and have a training agreement with a registered employer from a relevant industry.

Duration


This course is delivered over a 12-month period.

Delivery


This course is delivered with both theory and practical elements on-the-job.

Workplace based training and assessment.

Demonstration, Observation, Oral Question, Third Party Evidence.

Assessment Methods


This program is hands on and will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge to undertake a range of manual tasks on construction sites. After successfully completing this course you will have a solid foundation of the skills and knowledge needed to work in the civil construction industry.

Assessments are completed to measure your skills and knowledge against the training qualification requirements and those of the industry. The assessment process will include written and practical presentations and observation.

Materials

Unless specified, students are expected to provide their own PPE; however, some may be supplied by your employer:

  • Suitable work boots
  • Workwear suitable for construction
  • Gloves (may be supplied by employer)
  • Safety glasses (may be supplied by employer)
  • Hard hat (may be supplied by employer)
  • High visibility vest or clothing (vest may be supplied by CWBTS)
  • Sunscreen (may be supplied by employer)
  • Safety sunglasses (if doing work outside)
  • Earmuffs or plugs (may be supplied by employer)

Minimum Technology Requirements


CWBTS  uses a learning management system (LMS) for online course delivery and assessment submission.

The following are the minimum information technology requirements to enable optimal access to the LMS:
