In this course, you will gain a comprehensive understanding of building and construction projects to be able to complete small to medium residential and commercial construction from start to finish.

If you are an aspiring or working tradesperson, our Certificate IV in Building and Construction is your foundation for success. This is your first step toward starting your own business in the construction industry and preparing for the builders registration.

Career Pathways


This certificate will allow you to further your career in many facets of the building and construction industry. With additional experience, you could progress into supervisory roles such as site manager, construction project supervisor, coordinator, or planner.

Entry Requirements


  • You will have access to a computer and the internet for the duration of the course
  • The practical demonstrations of skills on a building and construction site will be required for some units of competency, near the completion of the course.
  • Students will need to have access to a building and construction site (where required)
  • You have access to certain tools that include a Theodolite and an Optical or Laser level

Duration


Part-time, two nights per week of facilitator-led classes for 45 weeks
*Total duration is typically between 45 to 59 weeks when taking into account unavoidable class breaks, public holidays and Christmas Shutdown period as applicable including an additional 8 weeks assessment time if required at the end of the program.

Assessment Methods


The course is delivered with both theory and practical elements, with a mixture of classroom, group discussions, and individual research (including online study).

Assessment combines classroom participation, observation, practical and written presentation and self-paced exercises online in the students’ own time.

The practical demonstrations of skills on a building and construction site will be required for some units of competency, near the completion of the course.

Students will need to have access to a building and construction site (where required).
